992/125J - RARE HANDCRAFTS MANUAL WINDING Pocket watch with back in miniature painting on enamel. This unique piece in yellow gold pays tribute to a painting by the Flemish artist Abraham Govaerts (1620) inspired by Ovid’s Metamorphoses. It depicts Vertumnus, the Roman god of seasons and change, disguised as an old woman so as to approach the wood nymph Pomona, goddess of fruit trees and orchards, whom he loves. To reproduce the wealth of detail and shimmering colors in this scene, the artist used the exacting technique of miniature painting on enamel finished with transparent flux according to the Geneva method. He worked with a palette of 19 enamel colors, including 15 blended shades, interspersed with 35 firings at temperatures ranging from 800°C to 830°C. The dial, in white enamel over yellow gold presents yellow-gold applied Breguet numerals and yellow-gold hands. A light-brown garnet cabochon (0.49 ct) decorates the crown. This pocket watch is accompanied by a yellow-gold handcrafted stand on an oval-shaped red marble base. It houses the caliber 17’’’ LEP PS manually wound movement with small seconds.
